Response to Mr. Cunningham’s Attacks

NY Medical College-Clinical Training

Okay, so once again let me get this straight: Bill Cunning Ham is bashing me with saying I live in a gated community, which I do not, there is no gate nor guard nor guard house to Highland Fields. The entrance is wide open, no gates, no fences, anyone is free to enter freely off of county line road and follow the street to get directly to my house! Secondly, we have more than clarified a thousand times that I was an aspirant member in the Benedictine convent and left before I

got near taking any final vows! Must we say this over and over again! Thirdly, the record is clear that I did my first two years of didactic medical school in Ensenada, then did the 3rd and 4th years of all clinical rotations in Wichita, Kansas, via the University of Kansas, a clinical year in Yonkers at St. Joseph’s hospital via New York Medical College then directly a Family Practice Residency via University of Illinois for 3 years! I tell you honestly if this is the best he can do to harass me, then I am so blessed !
Significant Touché as follows:
Over $65 Million in Settlements Awarded while Bill Cunningham Chief of Staff at the Sheriff’s Office Bill Cunningham candidate for Illinois state Senate in the 18th District owes the tax payers of Cook County an explanation. Mr. Cunningham has clearly stated on his official state representative website that he was an “Advisor” to Cook County Sheriff Mike Sheahan from 2004 through 2006 and then became “Chief of Staff” for Tom Dart in 2006 and then left this position upon his election to the state house in 2010. While Mr. Cunningham was at the Sheriff‘s office, the Cook County Jail used a policy of “blanket strip searches” and according to the detainees’ class action lawsuits. The suit stated that the strip searches were done so in a manner that violated the constitutional rights of the male and female detainees. According the Chicagoist.com, “detainees were strip search in hallways with bodily fluids present such as vomit, diarrhea and blood present. Dogs were also used to threaten, frighten, and intimidate detainees during strip searches; at time the dogs were not leashed or muzzled. Guards used insults or abusive language during strip searches, including insults about body odor, anatomy, sexual orientation and race.”According to the Strip search class action lawsuit the searches took place from January 30, 2004 through March 30, 2009 while Bill Cunningham was serving as both “Advisor” and then “Chief of Staff” to the current Sheriffs. We believe the residents of Cook County have a right to know if Mr. Cunningham had knowledge of these policies and if so why were these policies allowed to continue.

The Cook County Board agreed to settle the strip-search class action lawsuits in 2011 for over $65.3 Million.

So you tell me which of the above cost the tax payer’s money again, and who failed as a public servant!
We need a woman of integrity not a male puppet, serving the citizens of the 18th district!
Thank You! God Bless us All!

State Representative William Cunningham receives an F in 2012 Illinois Legislative Vote Card

IL Opportunity Project

MEDIA ALERT

Vote Card grades state lawmakers on pro-taxpayer, pro-economic growth votes

CHICAGO (Oct. 30, 2012) – State Representative William Cunningham of Chicago received a grade of F in the Illinois Opportunity Project’s 2012 Illinois Legislative Vote Card. Representative Cunningham joined 69 state lawmakers who received failing grades in the 2012 Illinois Legislative Vote Card.

In the 2012 Illinois Legislative Vote Card, IOP scored legislators on eight votes regarding issues that impact the families of Illinois. Legislators were graded on how often their votes protected taxpayers’ interests and promoted economic growth.

Representative Cunningham’s failing grade was caused by negative scores on five votes. Representative Cunningham voted in favor of a cigarette tax increase, in favor of early implementation of key provisions of ObamaCare, in favor of limiting campaign contributions (except for political parties), in favor of unrealistically high spending limits for the fiscal year 2013 budget, and against equal funding for charter schools.

In the Vote Card, members of the Illinois General Assembly also were graded on this spring’s Medicaid reform bill, a bill that eliminated the General Assembly Scholarship program, and tax increase on satellite dish users.

“The 2012 Illinois Legislative Vote Card provides an objective and impartial look at how legislators voted on eight key votes that impact the families of Illinois,” said Pat Hughes, former U.S. Senate candidate and spokesman for IOP. “In recent years, the policy agenda coming out of Springfield has been one that’s brought about irresponsible spending increases, and higher taxes — most notably the income and business tax hikes of January 2011.”

In total, 176 state lawmakers were given a grade in the Vote Card. Other scores included: Representative Michael Madigan 50%/D- (Chicago), Representative Elaine Nekritz 38%/F (Des Plaines), Senator Sam McCann 86%/B (Carlinville), and Senator Dave Syverson 100%/A+ (Rockford).

The 2012 Illinois Legislative Vote Card, including all the individual scores, is available online at: www.IllinoisOpportunity.org/VoteCard.

To all the readers of the SouthTown Star, voters, and supporters of the candidacy of Barbara Bellar for Illinois Senate District 18.  It saddens me to have to write a rebuttal to an article that was published about me yesterday, but I need THE VOTERS to know that my life is an open book. First, I would like to say that all my credentials have been placed on my website at www.electbellar.com for the entire universe to refer to and further verify if they so desire. Second, I will and do answer all phone calls, I can be contacted at 630-917-3200.

As yesterday’s article mentions I have been recently treated in a very unprofessional manner by the writer of the article, Mr. Phil Kadner, who the record shows has consistently for the past 8 years, voted Democratic, which is his constitutional right. I am glad that he votes, but I sense his attack of my veracity has significant ulterior motives and is backed by another who would keep Illinois under and under their control. I was forewarned that I would be barraged by this reporter and would have gladly meet with him by appointment at his or my office, but the manner in which he harassed me prior to an important forum was totally inappropriate and unprofessional. He did in fact, interview me about 2 years ago and interestingly he did not have any interest in slandering me then or going on a witch hunt for information that is available and authentic.

To address my past, of 1970, I did enter the convent of the Order of Saint Benedict, I entered because I wanted to serve God, and I eventually left also because I wanted to serve God. It has been public knowledge and stated by me personally everywhere that I left before getting near taking any type of vows. It is common knowledge that the number of vocations to religious life has sadly dwindled, and numerous women have left after taking final vows. During my time in the convent I was referred to as Sister Barbara. I know my experience during those years contributes to my desire to serve both God and people to the best of my ability. Our campaign never meant to dishonor or discredits anyone who pursues religious life and perhaps everyone is not familiar with the stages and titles in the progression.

It is a shame that we are being distracted by the events from my life, known to all, that took place over 40 years ago. What I would really like to see addressed is the current sad state of affairs in Illinois. These are the urgent and imperative topics that we should be focusing on now.

Regarding my academic educational pursuits at Loyola, New York Medical College, St. Louis University, John Marshall Law School, University of Illinois and any other educational institution, these are all verifiable without question. So can we get back to the vital matters at hand, taxes, jobs, small businesses, pensions, the financial deficit, Obamacare and that I am the candidate that will serve the 18th District with integrity and fortitude.

Finally, I have confidence in the astuteness of the voters to see through such smoke screens of distraction as yesterday’s article and invite them to join me in representing them with a clear view and purpose to revive this great State of Illinois. Punch #22 on your ballot. God Bless!
